Accurate 24-hour Blood Pressure Monitoring - for a clearer picture of your heart health
Hypertension, or consistently high blood pressure, is one of the main risk factors for serious health problems such as stroke, heart failure, and other cardiovascular diseases. Because high blood pressure often causes no noticeable symptoms, many people don’t realise they have the condition. The good news is that once identified, hypertension can usually be well controlled through lifestyle changes and, when needed, medication. Regular blood pressure monitoring plays an important role in both diagnosing hypertension and keeping it well managed over time.
Here at University Late Night Pharmacy, we can set you up with a 24-hour blood pressure monitor. This small cuff and machine check your blood pressure throughout the whole day and night while you go about your normal routine, and it also takes readings while you sleep. This gives a clear picture of what your blood pressure is really like in everyday life. It also helps avoid some of the common problems with one-off readings — for example, some people get higher readings in a clinic because they feel nervous (‘White Coat Hypertension’), while others may have higher blood pressure at home or during the night. A 24-hour monitor helps tell the difference between these patterns and true high blood pressure. For blood pressure monitoring, 24-hour average is the gold standard for diagnosing hypertension and adjusting medication.
How It Works
- At your first appointment, we will check your blood pressure before fitting you with a monitor, which you will wear for 24 hours.
Fitting: A small, lightweight cuff is fitted to your arm and connected to a portable monitor worn on a belt. (Takes 15 mins). - Your Day: You go about your normal activities. The device inflates automatically (usually every 20–30 mins during the day and hourly at night).
- The Diary: You keep a simple log of any symptoms (dizziness) or major activities (exercise, sleep).
- The Results: Return the device the next day. Our staff analyse the data and provide a comprehensive report.
